"Maintaining peace and democracy in Bosnia is extremely complicated"

"1.3 million refugees fled Bosnia during the war"

Bosnia
Before the Bosnian war in the early 1990s, Bosnia was Europe’s second poorest country. Bosnia is a country in ruins and only manages to keep going because of financial help from other countries.
Bosnian Muslims, Orthodox Serbs and Catholic Croats who were at war with each other between 1992 and 1995. To try and make the country work Bosnia was divided up between the Serbs and the Croat-Muslims. Maintaining peace and democracy in Bosnia is extremely complicated.

Challenges for Prayer
During the war people were slaughtered purely because of their ‘religion’ or ‘nationality’. Over a quarter of a million people died, a quarter of the country’s buildings were destroyed. Communities that once lived together have been split apart by hatred and fear. Pray that Bosnian and world leaders will have the courage and wisdom to make peace work.
1.3 million refugees fled Bosnia during the war. Only a quarter of those have returned
and many of them are still homeless. Pray for all those struggling to rebuild their lives.
The number of Christians in the Bosnian Muslim community has grown from only a handful to 400. Pray that loads more will get to hear the gospel.
Over half a million Serbs became refugees but they got the least amount of help. There is a lot of bitterness in the Serb people, who feel like the world ganged up on them and wanted to make them responsible for everything that happened.
In 2000 Christians began to work with the 30,000 students in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. Pray that the young people there would really open their hearts to God
