Cyprus is a nation divided. Since Turkey’s invasion to the north in 1974 effectively separated the Greek and Turkish populations and made a third of the population refugees. The North calls itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and is only recognised by Turkey. The South still claims the whole island as the Republic of Cyprus (ROC).
The Greek Cypriot majority (77% of the population) are mainly Christian, while the Turkish minority in the north are Muslim. Although both groups are free to meet and worship, any evangelism is closely monitored.

Challenges for Prayer
Pray for a peaceful resolution to the 40-year conflict between the northern and southern communities.
Because of it’s location, lots of Christian organisation use Cyprus as a base for working in the Middle East, but only a few missionaries are actually involved with working locally.
There is a small group of about 20 new Christians in the Muslim north. Pray that this group will be able to witness to their friends and families and grow!
